Corner stove fireplace for a summer residence: how to choose and where to install?

To decide which corner fireplace to choose, you can familiarize yourself with ready-made, completed projects, and evaluate the benefits of a particular style.

Stone fireplace - timeless classic

A brick fireplace with stone fit perfectly with wood-paneled walls. The room, thanks to its central element, simply radiates comfort and warmth. In combination with perfectly selected furniture and an oriental-style picture, the room is conducive to relaxation and rest. Fragrant smoke from burning firewood fills the surrounding atmosphere with mystical appeal, and warm light creates an unprecedented comfort. Such an organic setting is not easy to create without the presence of a fireplace. The chosen type of construction - angular, can also be considered successful.

Metal can also blend in perfectly.

The metal corner fireplace is the best suited for the interior in the style of minimalism, becoming a central, eye-catching element of the overall composition. It does not burden the design decision, but rather creates a harmonious balance of the distribution of objects in space. This room will completely change in the evening or on a rainy day - the flames reflected on the walls will create fabulous lighting and mystery in it. Near such an oven, in silence, it’s good to go deep into reading an interesting book or spend a romantic evening.

Corner electric fireplace - you can not distinguish from the present!

For this interior in a classical style, a corner electric fireplace is selected. If you don’t know about it, it can be taken for real, especially since the latest models of these electrical appliances that simulate the hearth are equipped with pleasant crackles familiar to hot wood. The advantage of an electric fireplace is the external design of the firebox with a podium for a TV and a shelf for installing other electronic equipment. The furniture is carefully chosen for the style of the fireplace frame - since it is the center of the interior, the whole life of this room passes around it. It is difficult to imagine this room without this main attribute, and if you replace it with another style option, the achieved mood and charm of the created atmosphere will be immediately lost.

Creative solution - compact corner biofireplace

A creatively designed interior, created around a no less creative corner biofireplace of white color, is best suited for modern hi-tech houses. The contrast of the wall in a very dark color and a romantically white fireplace makes the room unusual and original. The room, lit by the flame of the fireplace, whose tongues will dance with bright reflections on the dark walls, will become more mysterious.

If you have a desire to decorate your country house with a corner fireplace, try to carefully consider all the selection criteria: cost, design, installation time, fuel and others, which are important for creating home comfort and not burdensome for your budget. If there is an opportunity to acquire a similar interior decoration, do not deny yourself this pleasure.

Heating device design

Convection fireplace stove

The main design feature of the fireplace stove is its ability to generate convection heat into the environment. This is due to the presence of channels inside the furnace wall. Air is drawn into these channels from the room, which heats up along the path through them and returns. Included in the design of the fireplace is a woodcutter in the form of a niche located in the lower sector under the firebox.

The convenient angular shape of the Amur stove attracts buyers, which allows it to be comfortably placed in any interior surroundings, creating a special relaxation area

The Meta company pays great attention to the external design of the fireplace, giving it a trapezoidal configuration. The external facades of the furnace have a protective layer of black noble color from heat-resistant paint

The sides of the product have an expressive ceramic lining. In the lower sector of the fireplace stove there is a small compartment where you can put firewood.

Cupid stove fireplace in the interior

Cast iron is used for the manufacture of grates and the nozzle - a material that has proven its excellent qualities for decades. High-grade steel is taken for the furnace body. Enhances the wear resistance of the internal cladding with chamotte - comfortable refractory tiles that allow the dismantling of each of them if it becomes necessary to replace it due to damage.

Fireplaces presented by “Meta” have a convenient system for controlling the intensity of combustion by differentiating the amount of air supplied. This makes heating devices economical and allows about eight hours to maintain a comfortable warm atmosphere without adding fuel.

Installation and decoration

Installation of metal fireplace stoves is relatively simple and only requires connecting a chimney. Consider in more detail the technology of construction of brick structures. This procedure consists of several successive stages:

  • Project selection. Today, there are many varieties of such structures that differ in design. Therefore, before starting the main work, you need to decide what you are going to build.
  • Foundation construction. Perform it from monolithic concrete with mandatory reinforcement. The size of the base depends on the dimensions of the furnace and should exceed them by about 10-15 cm around the entire perimeter. The thickness of the base under the fireplace should be equal to the size of the main foundation. Therefore, the construction of such systems in multi-story buildings is ruled out.

Masonry. This step is performed according to the previously selected order. It should be noted that the first few rows together form the base of the fireplace. Here, successively set attributes such as doors, ash pan. The following several rows of bricks are used to create a smoke channel, furnace furnace. It all ends with the construction of the chimney

Please note that for the formation of ceilings, chamotte bricks are used instead of the usual one.
Finish. This stage is final, allowing to give the design a unique design

This can be done using tiles or other decorative materials. The main characteristic for choosing such products is their fire resistance.

Metal fireplace stoves, are they suitable for corner placement

The main feature of these furnaces is their compactness and high heating rate. The metal corner fireplace stove is a heating device with a firebox covered with refractory glass. Depending on the model, such an oven can be equipped with a stove for cooking and a heat exchanger tank for connecting a water heating circuit. The advantages of such furnaces include:

  • Small size and weight,
  • Possibility of installation on any floor, without foundation
  • High performance
  • Attractive appearance
  • Easy installation
  • Low price
  • Security.

Is the long burning function useful?

Models equipped with the long burning function are also very economical and have high efficiency: in this mode, oxygen is dosed to the furnace and no active burning of firewood occurs. With slow coal smoldering, heat transfer from the furnace increases, fuel is burned without the formation of a large amount of ash. On one full load of firewood in the long burning mode, the stove can work up to 6 hours, while a sealed door will protect you from accidentally emitted coals and sparks.

In addition, in the “long burning” mode, gases that are released during smoldering of wood are actively burned in the stove. During normal combustion, these gases are discharged through the smoke exhaust system and in no way increase the efficiency. If these gases are not removed, but immediately burned, it is noticed increase in productivity by 15-20% compared to conventional stoves. This is not fantastic, just imagine that with this option you need to harvest 15-20% less firewood for the winter than before! Questions about expediency instantly dissipate!

Attention! When choosing a long burning mode, it is highly recommended not to open the door of the stove until the wood of one load is completely burned. You let in excess oxygen, which significantly reduces the efficiency and levels this option!

Fireplace stoves with a water circuit allow you to connect a water heating system to them, due to which a complete heating of the house is created. The stove in the upper part allows you to cook, boil water, and also creates an additional plane with high heat dissipation, near which it’s just nice to warm your hands!

Wood-burning fireplace stove, which can be bought in the store

The following models of corner fireplace stoves are most popular among summer residents:

1. The Bavaria fireplace stove is made of 6 mm steel, lined with fireclay bricks inside. The furnace power is 6 kW, which allows you to heat a house with an area of up to 60 square meters. The long-term burning mode of this stove is 3-5 hours, the stove is equipped with refractory glass, which, thanks to the clean burning system, is not subject to soot, as well as a thermally insulated door handle, which will allow you not to burn yourself. The side walls of the furnace are lined with ceramics, this gives it an attractive appearance.

2. The Amur fireplace stove is equipped with panoramic glass with a blowing system - there is no soot and soot left on it. At the top is a hob. The model is made of heat-resistant steel with a lining, a power of 9 kW allows heating up to 180 cubic meters of a room, which with standard ceilings corresponds to an area of 60-80 square meters. The stove is lined with ceramic panels that improve heat transfer, even with complete combustion of the fuel - the stones will warm you for several more hours!

3. The Neva fireplace stove is generally similar to the Amur, but its power is lower - 6 kW. Such an oven can be recommended to owners of small houses with an area of 50-60 square meters. All heating surfaces of the furnace are coated with heat-resistant paint, so that it maintains a decent appearance for a long time and is not subject to corrosion.

4. The Teplodar corner fireplace stove with a power of 12 kW is designed for houses with an area of up to 80 square meters. The case is made of stainless steel and is resistant to burning. The door is equipped with a heat-resistant glass-ceramic window, allowing you to enjoy live fire. The stove at the top has a hob, firewood in the lower part of the body, as well as an ash pan with convenient extraction. A good choice for lovers of reliability and beauty.

All models can be installed on the finished floor, finished with non-combustible materials: metal sheet, tiles or porcelain stoneware. Their low weight avoids the reconstruction of floors and does not require a separate foundation. Fireplaces of this class can be installed on any floor of the house.

When installing a fireplace stove, consider the convenient delivery of combustible material so as not to drag firewood to the second floor!

Brick fireplace stoves, is it that simple?

The main difference between brick stoves and fireplaces is their unique style. Despite the difficulties arising during their installation - the need to build a foundation, the complexity of masonry - they are always popular with summer residents, because a brick fireplace with crackling firewood is a symbol of comfort and home. A corner fireplace stove has a number of indisputable advantages that their owners loved so much, read and think, can it still be better to spend a little more time and money and make a capital building of brick? Obvious advantages:

  • High heat capacity, allowing for a long time to maintain a comfortable temperature,
  • Decent appearance and a wide selection of finishing options, which allows you to fit the stove into any interior,
  • The durability of the fireplace stove, unlike the walls of low-cost metal stoves, brick is not prone to burning and destruction,
  • The ability to build a furnace of any thermal power and size, clearly for your needs,
  • Safety of the furnace when touched - in brick, unlike metal, there are practically no surfaces that can be burned.

The choice of models of corner stoves-fireplaces is very large, because a competent stove-maker who is familiar with the laws of thermodynamics and the device of smoke channels can design for you a stove of any configuration that goes into any corner of your summer residence. Of course, this will require additional financial investments, therefore, most summer residents who decide to put the stove-fireplace with their own hands, use ready-made schemes-orders. The article describes the technology of masonry corner fireplace stove designed by V. Grigoriev. Having mastered the basic methods of masonry, you can easily make a fireplace according to any scheme.

Red Brick Corner Fireplace

Masonry technology of a brick corner fireplace stove

The corner fireplace stove for the construction of V. Grigoriev is a stove with two fireboxes - a fireplace and a stove. The furnaces are located in different planes: the stove is on one of the sides of the stove, facing an adjacent room or kitchen compartment, and the fireplace is facing the center of the room. This design allows you to admire live fire from almost anywhere in the room, at the same time, the hob is hidden and does not spoil the appearance, which is very important in modern design!

From the possibility of the stove, it is worth noting the possibility of separate or simultaneous use of both furnaces, while the flue gases are removed through a common chimney. Smoke ducts are combined in the upper part of the furnace and blocked by valves - this eliminates the smoke when using a single furnace and tipping over the draft. The dimensions of the furnace are 1270x890 mm. The necessary materials and furnace equipment are shown in the table.

Laying scheme - the order and general view of the furnace are shown in the figures. The masonry technology for each row is described below.

General view of the corner fireplace for giving

Foundation

The foundation of the furnace is made of reinforced concrete. The dimensions of the foundation must exceed the dimensions of the furnace hearth by 10 cm on each side. The technology for its implementation is described below.

1. Mark the future foundation. It should be borne in mind that combining it with the general foundation of the house is strictly prohibited, this can lead to the destruction of the furnace!

2. Dig a pit of a suitable size, its depth should be equal to the depth of the foundation of the house. Country houses are usually placed on a shallow strip foundation, its underground part is buried no more than 50 cm.

3. The bottom of the pit is covered with a ten-centimeter layer of sand, watered with a sufficient volume of water for complete soaking and thoroughly tamped. This can be done by trimming logs or a special tool.

4. From boards with a thickness of 25 mm or plywood make the formwork. It can be fixed, in which case it is recommended to waterproof it.

5. Lay the reinforcement from the bar D8-D12 in the form of a lattice of 15x15 cm, at the intersection of the rods they connect with wire. With a foundation height of more than 20 cm, it is necessary to make two layers of reinforcement - above and below.

6. Knead concrete made of cement of grade no lower than M250, crushed stone and river sand in a ratio of 1: 2: 2, add so much water that the solution is of medium density. Concrete is poured into the formwork. It is better to do this at a time, without waiting for the previous portions to freeze. If you can’t knead such an amount of concrete right away, you need to lay it in layers with an interval of 2-3 days, while the previous layers are cleaned with a wire brush.

7. The height of the foundation should be 15 cm below the level of the finishing floor. The top layer is leveled, covered with a film and left for 3-5 days - during this time a set of critical strength occurs. After that, you can get to work.

Masonry process (ordering)

The laying of the furnace is carried out according to the ordering scheme. The general order of masonry for each row is as follows: lay a row of dry bricks and without mortar, adjust the brick to be trimmed if necessary, after which the bricks are briefly soaked in clean cold water and laid out on the stove solution. For the first rows, leveling the foundation with the floor level, use a cement mortar (1 share of cement for 2.5-3 shares of sand). For the remaining rows, a solution based on refractory clay is needed. Ready-made dry mixes containing chamotte clay are sold in construction stores, you can also take high-quality clay mined in the quarry.

1. Spread two rows, completing the foundation and leveling it with the level of the floor, from solid brick to cement mortar.

2. Rows 1 and 2 form under the stove. They are laid out according to the scheme of ceramic full-bodied bricks, marked in red on the diagram, cutting bricks.

3. In the 3rd row, the installation of doors begins: a clean one from the fireplace insert side and an ash pan door from the furnace side. When installing the door, you need to fix its frame with metal rods, for which holes in the bottom row of brick are drilled in the size of the pins and fasten it with a brick through the holes in the door frame. Instead of pins, you can use ordinary nails.

4. In the fourth row, the doors are additionally fixed to the holes in the frame with wire, after which it is closed into the masonry at a distance of at least 30 cm. A steel strip is placed on top of the ash pan of the fireplace insert - a support for the brick of the upper row.

5. The fifth row overlaps both doors, the laying of the smoke channel begins. In the 6th row, to separate the channel, they put a steel strip - a support for the partition.

6. Rows 7 through 9 form the furnace firebox and the walls of the fireplace insert. The door of the furnace furnace is fixed in the same way as the door of the ash pan. A chimney tooth is made in the back of the fireplace insert - a bevel cut at an angle to the back wall of the fireplace insert.

7. The tenth row forms the exit from the furnace to the smoke channel - this can be seen in the diagram. In the eleventh row, a hob is installed on top of the firebox, for this purpose a row is laid out dry, the stove is tried on and a line of its fit on the bricks is drawn, after which the bricks are numbered, disassembled and the grooves are selected in the grinder for laying the stove of the appropriate thickness. The plate is placed on a heat-resistant solution. In the same row lay a steel strip - a support for closing the fireplace insert. Continue laying the chimney tooth.

8. In the 12th row, the laying of the ceiling of the fireplace insert made of chamotte brick begins - in the diagram it is indicated in yellow. Cover the part of the smoke channel extending from the furnace. On the side of the furnace and hob, only the side wall that separates the stove from the wall of the house is laid out.

9. In the 13th row, a valve is installed in the smoke channel, the masonry of the fireplace overlap is continued. In this row, the fireplace insert is narrowed to the maximum; it is the last row of the fireplace tooth.

10. Rows from 14 to 18 are generally similar, they form a chimney, a wall near the hob, an expanded part of the chimney stack, and in the 16th and 17th rows there is also a mantelpiece. They are laid according to the scheme.

Fireplace stove order: rows 1 to 18

11. In the 19th row, the space above the hob is covered with a metal sheet, and in the 20th and 21st rows it is laid with brick. From the side of the fireplace, the laying of the smoke collector and smoke channel is continued according to the scheme.

12. In the 22nd and 23rd rows, the smoke channel is expanded, and a clean door is installed on the side of the fireplace insert. In the 24th row above the expansion of the smoke channel, a metal spark cutter is installed. A metal strip is placed on the back of the chimney smoke box. 25 and 26 rows are laid according to the scheme.

13. In the 27th row above the chimney smoke box put a valve. In the 28th row they put another clean door, and in the 29th they lay a steel sheet - the overlap of the furnace, supporting bricks 30, 31 and 32 of the row.

14. In the 33rd and 34th rows, the fireplace chimney is closed, only the common chimney remains. In the 35th row, a decorative border is made of brick along the edge of the furnace, as a result, by the 36th row there is only a chimney, this can be seen in the diagram. Continue laying it to the desired height, displacing the bricks to form a dressing of rows.

Types and principle of operation of corner fireplace stoves

A fireplace, in its diversity, can perform several functions at once: decorative, cooking and heating. Depending on the energy source, fireplaces are divided into the following types:

  • wood burning
  • gas
  • on liquid and solid biofuels,
  • electric.

A wood burning stove for a summer residence can consist of two sections. A glass door is installed on top for laying firewood. Below is an ash pan. The fireplace may have a stove made of cast iron or cermet.

Gas fireplaces and some solid fuel stoves may have a built-in boiler. This device requires the installation of a system of pipes and radiators that will heat the home.

Electric fireplaces are a good alternative in a small cottage. Built-in heating elements are able to maintain heat in the room, and imitation of flames will bewitch your eyes, like the flame of a real fire.

Biofuel fireplaces or biofireplaces are still exotic in the vastness of Russia as a summer cottage option, although they allow you to stylishly decorate the interior and can occupy only a small fraction of the space to be equipped when using the wall model.

Fireplaces can be made of different materials, which also affects the technical and operational characteristics:

  • made of cast iron are particularly durable and durable,
  • steel fireplaces cool quickly and do not have a long service life, but cheaper than cast-iron structures,
  • combined - steel, brick, cast iron,
  • brick fireplaces.

Cast iron fireplaces, as a rule, have a large weight, which makes installation difficult. A significant plus in the cast-iron version is that they remain hot for a long time. Minus: cast-iron fireplaces are very expensive.

The steel structure is inefficient in operation: at high temperatures, sooner or later the metal is deformed. The advantage can be considered the low cost of steel products, in contrast to models made of another material.

The combined version of the fireplace with the correct gradation of the material can be highly efficient. In this embodiment, the furnace and hob are made of cast iron, then they use less heat-resistant materials for decorative decoration.

A fireplace stove for cottages, laid out of brick, will have high efficiency, a hob can be installed on it, which will increase the useful characteristics of the device, it will have a long service life, but there are some nuances. The main minus of the brickwork of the fireplace - it will take up too much space, and secondly, it will take a lot of time, because the foundation for the brick is installed in a dug ground or, in extreme cases, on it.

Methods of heating stoves and fireplaces:

  1. Gas
  2. Wood burning.
Wood burning stoves are most popular in private country houses. They warm the whole room, especially if the stove is made of brick. In addition, the pleasure of watching the burning fire.
  3. Electric.
For the apartment, electrical foci are ideal. They heat the room well due to the built-in heating elements. Modern technology allows you to create the illusion of flame almost indistinguishable from the present.
  4. Biofireplaces.
Such fireplace stoves are installed both in apartments and in country houses. Safe biofuels used in them do not produce smoke.

The main purpose of stoves and fireplaces is space heating.

Some also set to decorate the interior. Cooking is a secondary function if it is not a heating cooking model or a Russian brick stove.

If we take as a basis the design of the furnace, then fireplace stoves can be divided into models of variable and long burning.

The following materials are used as cladding:

  • A rock
  • Metal.
Metal fireplace stoves are lightweight. This allows you to do without a foundation. You just need to prepare a fire resistant base.
  • Brick
Traditional fireplace stoves use refractory bricks as a combustion chamber. Sometimes they are equipped with a cast-iron combustion chamber.

There are designs with a water circuit. When connected to a home heating system, they can heat all the rooms in it.

Advantages of Corner Fireplace Stoves

How to choose a good fireplace

The corner wood fireplaces for summer cottages are in great demand. On the market you can find a variety of models. It is necessary to adhere to some selection criteria in order to combine several useful functions in the purchase at once.

Useful tips when choosing a corner fireplace:

  1. Electric fireplace with a capacity of 1 kW is able to maintain heat on an area of 10 square meters. m. For the best effect, add 30% to the accepted indicator, or 1 kW count on a square of 70 square meters. m
  2. Choose a firebox covered with glass, firstly, it is safer, and secondly, more efficient, since the wood burns longer.
  3. There are fireplace stoves in which combustion modes are built in, in addition to the usual program, it is desirable to have an economical mode of fuel combustion.
  4. Heat-resistant glass can be self-cleaning.
  5. It will be more convenient to remove the ash from a removable ash pan.
  6. Fireplaces can be with a hob, with a built-in tank, oven, etc.

Varieties and material of manufacture

A variety of fireplace stoves allows you to solve many problems, among which the main one is heating, and only then - the decoration of the room. Such designs can be used for cottages and apartments, choosing the appropriate option.

Fireplaces depending on the fuel used can be divided into the following types:

  • Wood burning.
  • Gas. They are used in rooms where there is no way to build a classic stove.
  • Eco fireplaces. The main source of energy for such furnaces is biofuel. No smoke is emitted during operation of such systems.
  • Electric.

Another criterion by which corner fireplaces are divided is the material from which they are made. According to this characteristic, the following structures are distinguished:

Brick stoves. This variety is very common. The construction of brick ovens requires compliance with special technology. All such operations are performed only by experienced professionals.

  • Stone. As a material for the manufacture of the frame, various types of natural stone can withstand high temperatures.
  • Metal. The surface of the furnace can be either cast iron or steel, which depends on the specific type of structure and its manufacturer. All these models, in turn, are separated on a variable and long-burning furnace. The latter are able to maintain temperature for several hours without the need for refueling.

Fireplaces equipped with a water circuit should be highlighted in a special category. This system allows you to simultaneously heat the entire house. Wall-corner fireplace stoves can be equipped with additional functionality. Today there are such types of structures:

  • Fireplace with stove. They are used for cooking. The shape and size of the hob is selected individually.
  • Ovens with oven. The purpose of the structures is similar to the previous type of product. Here, only the principle of cooking is changed.
  • Combined. There are both a hob and an oven. This combined design optimizes the execution of many processes related to cooking.

Distinctive features of fireplace corner stoves

Analyzing the design features of corner fireplaces that are found on the market, we can emphasize some distinctive features. Ovens, as a rule, have a stylish appearance, make the room cozy and do not occupy free space. When installing, you do not need to redo anything or finish it, only the hole in the ceiling under the chimney pipe, in contrast to the built-in and wall structures that are mounted at the construction stage of the house.

The front of the corner stoves of fireplaces can be flat or semicircular - the fire can be observed from anywhere in the room. From the corner of the room there is an even distribution of heat. Due to the placement in the corner, the fireplace has a higher efficiency due to the reflection of heat from two walls adjacent to the furnace.
